Under the trend of globalization,the communication among countries is becoming closer,and it is increasingly important to cultivate talents with good intercultural communication skills.The core literacy of the English subject as clearly stated in the 2017 edition of English Curriculum Standards for Senior High Schools has been scientifically subdivided into four parts — language competence,thinking disposition,cultural awareness and learning ability.Among them,cultivating students' intercultural competence is an important part of cultivating cultural awareness.As an important factor of intercultural competence,intercultural sensitivity has attracted extensive attention of scholars in recent years.And pragmatic competence also has an important relationship with intercultural competence.Therefore,the study of intercultural sensitivity and pragmatic competence of high school students is of great guiding significance to develop students' intercultural competence.This study,guided by the theories of intercultural sensitivity and pragmatic competence,selected high school students of Grade 2017 as the research subject to study their intercultural sensitivity and pragmatic competence and analyzed their correlation,what's more,the pragmatic competence of high school students with different intercultural sensitivity was compared.In this study,246 high school graduating class students from Ya'an Middle School in Sichuan Province were selected for questionnaire test,and 20 of them were interviewed,then the collected data were analyzed comprehensively and the corresponding model is established by SPSS 16.0statistical analysis software and Artificial Neural Network(ANN).By combining quantitative and qualitative approaches,the following research questions are answered:(1)What is the current situation of Grade 2017 high school students' intercultural sensitivity and pragmatic competence?(2)Is there any correlation between intercultural sensitivity and pragmatic competence among Grade 2017 high school students? If there is,how is the correlation between their intercultural sensitivity andpragmatic competence?(3)How to improve senior high school students' intercultural sensitivity and pragmatic competence?The results showed that the current situation of Grade 2017 high school students' intercultural sensitivity and pragmatic competence are in the medium level,and their intercultural sensitivity and pragmatic competence are positively correlated.What's more,“respect for culture differences”,“interaction confidence” and “interaction attentiveness” of ISS have significant positive effects on pragmatic competence.Through quantitative analysis and qualitative analysis,this paper gives some suggestions to improve intercultural sensitivity and pragmatic competence of senior high school students from the perspective of teachers and students themselves.
