With the deepening of the reform of curriculum standards,the new curriculum standards have higher requirements for middle school students' comprehensive English language ability.Judging from the reading questions of college entrance examination questions in recent years,the types of questions are mostly designed from the aspects of text structure,text logic,paragraph general idea etc.It reflects the requirements for middle school students' critical thinking ability.Senior high school is the mature period of teenagers' thinking development.At this stage,teachers are expected to promote reading by thinking and reading to promote thinking,which will help to cultivate students' thinking ability and deepen the English curriculum reform.In order to better guide English teaching,and teach students in accordance with their aptitude,a science class and a liberal arts class of grade two in Nanchong High Senior School are studied with a total of 121 subjects.Aiming to answer three questions is as follows:(1)What are the levels of critical thinking disposition of science and liberal arts students in senior high school? Is there any difference between the two?(2)What are the levels of English reading comprehension achievements of science and liberal arts students in senior high school? Is there any difference between the two?(3)Is there a correlation between the critical thinking disposition of science and liberal arts students in senior high school and their English reading comprehension achievements?This paper adopts quantitative research method,and research tools include Critical Thinking Disposition Inventory-Chinese Version and Reading Comprehension of Zhejiang College entrance examination in 2018.Using SPSS 24.0 to analyze the original data,the results show that: 1)the science and liberal arts students' levels of critical thinking disposition in senior high school are low,which shows that there is an obvious deficiency in the trait of critical thinking disposition.From the results of independent sample T-test,there are significant differences in Truth-seeking,Open-mindedness and Self-confidence;2)the science and liberal arts students' levels of English reading comprehension in senior high school is good,but there is no significant difference between them;3)there is no significant correlation between the critical thinking disposition of science and liberal arts students and their English reading comprehension,but there is a positive correlation between them in the dimension of Systematicity.
