For Chinese early realism films,reflecting social reality is not only a creation orientation,but also an era proposition.Media is the "mirror image" that can express social objective reality,and film is no exception.At the beginning of its birth,it has assumed such a media function,recording the reality of life objectively and influencing our cognition in a more intuitive way with visual symbols.Among them,the depiction of tragic characters is the most representative.In the early Chinese realistic films,there are different tragic characters: the old capitalist’s tragedy of life,Zeng he du in《the ghost of the black nationality》Yang shou chang in《the orphan saving the ancestors》,and the middle class under the shackles of feudal ethics,the Kun Qian family,in《Hard husband,hard wife》;People at the bottom of the society Li Niang in《the soul of jade pear》,Wang Lian ying in《 Yan Rui sheng》,Wang Xiu zhen in《the last conscience》,Cui Ying in 《the blind lonely girl 》 and Zhang Xin sheng in《Zhang Xin sheng》 These tragic characters in the film are of great class representative significance.The film’s exploration of the causes of the tragic fate of the characters is the exploration of the causes of the tragedy of the common people in the social real life of China in 1920 s,as well as the profound analysis of the causes of the tragedy of the social reality.The causes of tragedy in the film include the tragedy of the characters’ own fate Wang Lian ying in《 Yan Rui sheng》、Tragedy of social ethics system Zhang Fu in 《Zhang Xin sheng》;the Kun Qian family,in《Hard husband,hard wife》、Wang Xiu zhen in《the last conscience》And the character tragedy Zeng he du in《the ghost of the black nationality》Yang shou chang in《the orphan saving the ancestors》。The setting of tragic characters in Chinese early realistic films,On the one hand,it laid a theoretical foundation for the development of realistic films and promoted the development of documentary aesthetics;on the other hand,it provided an effectiveway for the public to obtain information and understand the social reality.Therefore,the paper research interval is locked in the time range of 1905-1925,The study of the classification of tragic characters in early Chinese realistic films(1905-1925),the exploration of the causes of tragedy and the influence of the creation of tragic characters are also the exploration of the existence of Chinese social reality in 1920s.
