| In recent years, environmental problems have caught the world’s attention and have been frequently mentioned.Various threats to our environment, including invasive species, diseases, pollution, and a warming climate, are putting wildlife populations at risk.Environmental Non-governmental organizations are involved actively in environmental affairs, such as initiating environmental campaigns and conducting environmental education. The popularity of social media not only expands the communication channels and mobilization platforms for Non-governmental organizations, but also enriches the discussion of social issues in the network public space and has a positive effect on promoting the green discourse space in the social public sphere. In this study,a combination of quantitative and qualitative research methods was adopted to study linguistic features of tweets and the deep pragmatic meaning of narrative discourse.Based on the framework of Halliday’s Systemic Functional Grammar and Fairclough’s three-dimensional model, this study was conducted through in-depth research on the interpersonal meaning of the World Wildlife Fund’s tweets and tried to explain the social practice behind the discourse. At the same time, this study also uses persuasion theory in the field of communications to analyze the World Wild Fund’s discourse strategy. From the macro level,I attempted to grasp the main environmental issues and significant objectives of World Wild Fund on Twitter. From the micro level,I explored the deep connotations of environmental discourse text and its persuasion function. The study found that environmental Non-governmental organizations use discourse rhetoric to write confrontational discourse in the green public domain and construct a public environmental outlook from the level of consciousness. This paper explores the deep meaning behind the tweet texts in the process of constructing environmental issues in World Wild Fund and summarized the strategic communication strategy World Wild Fund used to explore how international environmental Non-governmental Organizations use social media as an emerging media science to effectively disseminate environmental information to better build citizens’ awareness of the environment and promote public environmental behavior. |
