A Study On The Social Transition And Its Resistance Factors In The Early Postbellum South

After the American civil war in 1865,the south,as the losing side,not only suffered heavy losses,but also lost the ability to maintain black slavery.The south were forced to abolish the black slavery in the United States,blacks won the legal rights of citizens,political climate of the south toward democratization,the dominant slavery plantation economy also lost Labour base,produced by tenants system as the main characteristics of the transition to a free capitalist economy in the economic model,southern society started the social transformation.Gradually faded,but along with the radical reconstruction of the southern most free black civil rights violations by continuous,the black in the system of peasant economy labor is still suffering from serious exploitation,southern white discrimination against blacks is still very serious,even at the end of the 19 th century at the beginning of the 20 th century has formed the situation in which racial segregation,this enough to justify social transformation after the civil war of the early American southern although made some achievements,but still affected by the great resistance factors,makes further widening gap of southern and northern society.This paper makes a detailed study on the transformation of the southern American society in the early period after the civil war,and firstly studies the basic situation of the southern American society.These include the characteristics and development trends of southern society before,during and after the civil war.Before the civil war,the south of the United States was dominated by the economic system of slavery plantations.The Democratic Party,which represented the will of the plantation owners,controlled the southern political situation for a long time.More than three million black slaves did not enjoy any civil rights.Go from bad to worse in the civil war,because of the war,the southern plantation was swept by the union army,plantation economy destroyed,originally tight black slaves and slave owners of personal attachment appeared loose,black slaves beganoriginally do not belong to their social activities,the confederacy regime is in jeopardy.The early development trend of southern society after the civil war was the change of political economy and social life caused by the abolition of slavery.After research the problem above,they can better dig southern society after the civil war by the resistance of the factors,including the federal,the southern states,and the national social resistance factors of three aspects: the contradiction between congress and President Johnson problems,the Supreme Court's attitude change,the southern states' rights,planter obstruction,3 K party's violence and racial discrimination against black people.These different levels of resistance factors into the internal order of the southern society postwar together to shape and has a negative impact on the development of future,hindered the transformation of the plantation economy,does not favor the southern society the development of capitalist economy,is not conducive to southern society to absorb the black freedom labor,more is bad for black people in southern society,hindered the economic development of southern society,hindered the southern society transformation.
