Compared with Bao Tianxiao who entered the May 4th period in the late Qing Dynasty and early Republican period, his literary activities have already undergone a marked turn.Previously,he focused on the translation of Western literary works, and this period paid more attention to the creation of literary works,of which family novels were an important category of creation after his literary activities turned.Coinciding with the outbreak of the literary revolution,Bao Tianxiao himself was criticized as an important representative of the Mandarin Duck Butterfly School,so it exists in a disgraceful face in the history of modern literature. In the 1990 s,as the Mandarin Duck Butterfly School was re-discovered and interpreted by scholars,it was discovered that they had hidden research value. In this period,as far as the content of Bao Tianxiao's family novels is concerned, there is a hidden connection with certain aspects of the May4 th ethical revolution.Although in the novel's narrative mode,Bao Tianxiao adopted some gentle writing methods to avoid the ethical conflict of marriage and love, such as the absence of patriarchy, focusing on describing the life after marriage, etc.;but in terms of content expression, there is a response to the ethical revolution Such as the promotion of new-style families, the equality of husband and wiferelationships, and the importance of women ' s education, these are obviously affected by the ethical revolution, but they are only displayed in a way different from the May 4th literary works. In the creation process of family novels,Bao Tianxiao is not a simple transplant of the content advocated by the ethical revolution, but a part of having his own independent thinking. This content is just like some writers in the early May 4th period. For example,Bing Xin and others have reflected on the excessive aspects of the ethical revolution, which has to be said to be Bao Tianxiao's intentive observation of the social phenomena at that time.Because of the influence of educational background, life experience, values, etc.,Bao Tianxiao's transformation from traditional literati to modern intellectuals inevitably brings a new and old phenomenon. In particular, the identity of a newspaper novelist has given him a strong sense of renewal, trying to understand the various trends in society as much as possible;but he is deeply influenced by Chinese traditional culture, and it is inevitable in his novel creation There is a nostalgia for traditional ethics, which leads to the defects and deficiencies in the understanding of the May 4th ethics. However, for Bao Tianxiao, who experienced various social thoughts in the late Qing Dynasty and the beginning of the Republic and entered the May 4th Movement, his own reasons are only one aspect.Factors such as the special background and chaotic social status also affect Bao Tianxiao.Self-awareness andpositioning. And precisely because of the complexity behind its identity,in the context of the ethical revolution, through the critical work of Bao Tianxiao as a window to examine and understand the diversity and richness of ethical revolution in society.
