| Critical thinking is one of the requisite thinking qualities for high-quality talents.Therefore,the cultivation of critical thinking has become the focus of educational research at home and abroad.Also,The National English Curriculum Standards for General High School(2017)incorporates the cultivation of students’ critical thinking into English course objectives.Critical thinking can help students to establish a realistic attitude,broaden their thinking,increase their self-confidence and thirst for knowledge,enhance their ability to analyze and solve problems systematically,guide students to maturity,and finally promote their overall development.As a comprehensive English learning activity,English writing is closely related to thinking.The process of English writing involves the participation of the writer’s thinking.Therefore,the English writing course can be used as a means to cultivate students’ critical thinking.At present,the forms of related research at home and abroad are diverse,and the achievements are rich,from the construction of theory patterns to the implementation of concrete teaching research.However,most studies focus on students in colleges and universities,while studies focusing on senior high school students are relatively scarce.In view of this,this study explores how to cultivate students’ critical thinking disposition through senior high school English writing teaching.This study integrates the training of students’ critical thinking disposition into English writing teaching activities to cultivate students’ critical thinking disposition and improve students’ English writing ability.This study intends to address the following three questions:(1)What is the current level of critical thinking disposition of the senior high school students?(2)What is the effect of the English writing teaching model integrated with critical thinking disposition training on the critical thinking disposition of senior high school students?(3)What is the effect of the English writing teaching model integrated with critical thinking disposition training on senior high school students’ English writing ability? In this study,a one-semester experimental study of English writing teaching was conducted on 80 students in two classes in a senior highschool in Jincheng.Before the teaching experiment,the author used the California Critical Thinking Disposition Inventory questionnaire and the English writing test in the experimental class and the control class to carry out the critical thinking disposition pretest and the English writing pretest.In the course of the teaching experiment,the author adopted the English writing teaching model integrated with the critical thinking disposition training in the experimental class and the traditional English writing teaching model in the control class.After the teaching experiment,the author used the California Critical Thinking Disposition Inventory questionnaire and the English writing test to carry out the critical thinking disposition post-test and the English writing post-test in the experimental class and the control class.After the tests were completed,the author collected the data and used SPSS26.0 to analyze the data to get the results.The study found that:(1)The students of the experimental class and the control class showed the critical thinking disposition in the lower middle level after the critical thinking disposition tests.(2)After the teaching experiment,the average critical thinking disposition of the students in the experimental class was higher than that of the students in the control class,so it can be seen that the English writing teaching model integrated with the critical thinking disposition training can effectively improve the critical thinking disposition of the senior high school students.(3)After the teaching experiment,the average English writing performance of the experimental class was higher than that of the control class,so it can be seen that the English writing teaching model integrated with the critical thinking disposition training can effectively improve the English writing ability of the senior high school students.Based on the research results,the author confirms the feasibility and effectiveness of combining the cultivation of critical thinking disposition with senior high school English writing teaching,and puts forward some relevant suggestions on the cultivation of critical thinking disposition and English writing teaching in senior high school. |
