A Corpus-based Approach To Constructionalization Of "V₁ Zhe V₂"

Complex predication is an important way and form of complicating a sentence,and has always been an important topic in the study of Chinese grammar.In modern Chinese,in addition to the two typical complex predication construction:"serial-verb" and"pivotal construction" ,there is another complex predication construction,that is,"V₁zheV₂" ?such as"???" ?.In recent years,the domestic academic community has paid attention to this grammatical structure,but it has been controversial as far as its grammatical nature,internal semantic structure,and the relationship with other constructions,making it difficult to reach a consensus.Based on the previous studies,this thesis obtains the real data of"V1zheV₂" construction through database retrieval,and makes a quantitative and qualitative analysis of relevant corpus under the framework of construction,aiming to answer the following three problems:?1?What is the syntactic attribute of"V1zheV₂" ??2?What kind of constructional meaning does"V1zheV₂" have??3?How did"V1zheV₂" derive a new form and what triggers this shift?Through the observation of corpus,we found that most of the"V1zheV₂" constructions have the corresponding form of"V₁V₂" or"V₁O₂" ,which indicates that the construction has three different stages and forms in the process of constructionalization.The main conclusions of this thesis are as follows through a comprehensive analysis:?1?"V1zhe V₂" belongs to a semi-schema construction.Its syntax type is modifier-core structure,and the construction meaning is"to perform an action in a certain way or state" .?2?"V1zheV₂" derives a new form-meaning pair through the grammatical constructionalization of"zhe" and the lexical constructionalization of"V1zheV₂" .?3?What triggers the constructionalization of"V1zheV₂" are frequency effects and economic principles of language.This thesis does a more profound analysis about"V1zheV₂" from the angle of construction grammar with an attempt to resolve existing differences in order to have a comprehensive and accurate understanding of this construction,and further promotes the combination of construction Grammar and Chinese phenomenon.Moreover,perfecting Chinese Ontology Research is also the purpose of this thesis.At the same time,it is expected to be helpful to Teaching Chinese as A Foreign Language.
