Writing,as one of the most important ways to show the comprehensive ability of second language learners,plays an important role in English teaching.However,the current situation of English writing teaching is not satisfying in senior high school.The reason is that teachers often teach writing as a separate skill and cannot combine reading with writing in English writing classes.Therefore,based on the previous studies about English writing and the current situation of English writing teaching,the author decided to conduct an action research on 40 students in Grade one of a key senior high school in Haikou.Its purpose is to explore whether the application of reading-to-writing in English writing teaching have an impact on the students' writing.In the early stage of action research,through questionnaire,interview and writing test,the author had a deep understanding of the current situation of students' English writing and their attitude towards writing.Based on that,the following questions are identified: firstly,does reading-to-writing have an impact on students' English writing content,organization,vocabulary and language,and mechanics? Secondly,is it possible to change students' writing interest and attitude?After the research questions are identified,the author conducted the first round of action research for six weeks.First of all,the author took the reading texts in the English teaching materials used by the school teachers as the input to guide the students to output the related writing tasks.Then the author took the third monthly English test as the test,and used SPSS software to analyze students' writing performance.In view of the problems that still exist after the analysis,the students were interviewed randomly.Finally,according to the results,the author reflected on the shortcomings of the first round of action research,and adjusted the implementation plan.According to the improvement plan,the second round of action research was carried out for five weeks,and the final English test of the school was taken as the post test.SPSS software was also used to analyze the students' writing performance.In addition,the author used questionnaire to further analyze whether students' attitude towards English writing and writing situation have changed.The results of this action research show that the application of reading-to-writing has a positive impact on students' English writing in senior high school English writing teaching.It can not only improve the writing content,vocabulary and language,organization and mechanics of students' English writing,but also change their attitude towards English writing.
