On The C-E Translation Principles Of Chinese-Featured Political Terms

The discourse of the country leader always acts as the symbol of a country's policies,regime,attitudes and direction.Xi Jinping's discourse on the governance of China is an important access to China's regime,policies and future action.Xi Jinping:The Governance of China contains Xi's speeches and remarks in various occasions.Since the release of its English version,the compilation has been publicized around the world and attracted great attention.It provides a great example for the later Chinese-English international publicity translation.However,considering that many Chinese-featured political terms are included in this book,the target readers will get caught easily in the understanding of those key political terms.Besides,after a comprehensive and complete literature review of the researches on Xi Jinping: The Governance of China at home and abroad,the author found that many researches focused mainly on translation strategies from different theoretical perspectives.Still,there are only a few researches on the translation principles of Chinese-featured political terms.This research chose the English version of Xi Jinping: The Governance of China as a case study.Under the guidance of political translation theories,the study on the C-E translation of Chinese-featured political terms is conducted to abide by or adopt some appropriate translation principles,translation strategies and translation methods with an aim to provide some suitable translation principles for it.After reviewing the political translation theories in the past 20 years and combining the features of Chinese-featured political terms,the author has put forward three principles for translating Chinese-featured political terms into English on the basis of many examples from Xi Jinping: The Governance of China.They are political fidelity,meaning equivalence and discourse-orientedness.Through analysis and demonstration,the three principles were observed basically in the C-E translation of Chinese-featured political terms of Xi Jinping: The Governance of China and they can be adopted as a guidance.Furthermore,suggestions for translation strategies and methods were given.This thesis falls into five parts.Chapter one introduces the background of the research,its significance,methodology and the layout of this thesis.Chapter two is the literature review.Chapter three aims to build a theoretical framework for principles of political translation.Chapter four exemplifies the Chinese-featured political terms of Xi Jinping: The Governance of China.It comprises the illustration of the three translation principles on the basis of translation analysis of the examples,and provides some guidance in translation strategies and methods.Chapter five draws a conclusion based on the above.
