Fuzzy Language Translation Strategies With The Framework Of Relevance Theory

Fuzzy linguistics is a new subject introduced from abroad.Many scholars at home and abroad have made in-depth researches and explorations on the fuzziness of language and related topics.Fuzzy language has the basic characteristics of semantic uncertainty and variability.It is worth pondering and appreciating if it is used properly in literary works.There are a large number of fuzzy languages in Moonlight over the Lotus Pond,which are endowed with rich cultural connotations and the writer's inner feelings.It is also a major feature of the prose Moonlight over the Lotus Pond which has been translated into different English versions.Among these works,the translation of vague language is undoubtedly the key to a successful translation.Consequently,the thesis makes an effort to give an analysis of the fuzzy language in Moonlight over the Lotus Pond,which provides empirical reference for the study of translation strategies of fuzzy language.According to the English versions of Zhu Chunshen,Xianyi Yang& Gladys Yang,Wang Jiaosheng,Li Ming and David E.Pollard,this study explored two questions: 1)What kinds of fuzzy languages are there in Moonlight over the Lotus Pond based on the objects and scope of fuzzy language? 2)What kinds of translation strategies should be chosen to achieve optimal relevance? On the basis of the objects and scope of fuzzy language,it is found that the fuzzy language in Moonlight over the Lotus Pond can be divided into the following categories: words expressing color,words expressing numbers,adjectives or adverbs expressing subjective feelings,words expressing time,adaptors,rounders and fuzziness by Implicature;it is also found that the English versions usually adopt four strategies: to translate fuzziness with fuzziness,to translate fuzziness precisely,ellipsis and amplification in rendering fuzzy language in Moonlight over the Lotus Pond.These strategies can help the target language readers achieve the optimal relevance and achieve the optimal contextual effect.It is feasible to use relevance theory as a guide in fuzzy language translation.Figure 0;Table 3;Reference 40...
