The translation of Chinese classical literary theory into English is of great significance to the“going globe" strategy of Chinese culture and the prosperity of world culture.Wenxin Diaolong is a classic work of literary criticism written by Liu Xie in the Northern and Southern Dynasties, and it is widely known as the master of traditional Chinese literary theory. But domestic and foreign studies on its English translations have just begun, and few studies have focused on its English versions with the theory of Reception Aesthetics. As an authoritative textbook of Harvard University, the English translation of Wenxin Diaolong by Stephen Owen is worthy of discussion in the viewpoint of Reception Aesthetics Theory.Reception Aesthetics Theory has shifted from emphasizing author and work to emphasizing text and reader. And the ground supports of Reception Aesthetics Theory are horizon of expectations and response-inviting structures which all manifest the translator's interventionConsequently, this paper takes the theory of Reception Aesthetics as the guide, and selects Stephen Owen's translation version as the research object to explore the realization path and mood of the translator's intervention by using the method of close reading. This research points out that translator' s intervention exists objectively. There are three paths:shallow intervention, moderate intervention and deep intervention. The state of mind is the principled requirement and has a guiding effect on the path. The translator reasonably sets the response-inviting structures to satisfy the imagination and meets, breaks and even reshapes the reader's expectation horizon,to realize the communication, dialogue and integration of the translator, the reader and the original author. The translator is supposed to play an active role in self-motivation,self-vigilance,self-introspection to realize self-confidence,hoping to expand the breadth and depth of the studies on Wenxin Diaolong and provide some references for external publicity policy of China today.
