The choice of materials determines the tone of the creator's expression of his own intentions to a large extent in contemporary sculpture creation.Among diverse composition materials,ceramic materials have more discussion aspects compared with other hard materials such as wood and metal.As one of the basic materials of human civilization,ceramic materials are spread in every corner of daily life.This makes it necessary to discuss it in a specific context,otherwise it will fall into an awkward situation of missing subjects.Ceramics have appeared in the discourse framework of sculpture since ancient times as a molding material.However,most of the domestic language research on ceramic materials has been carried out in the context of ceramic art due to the particularity of the material itself.However,the language provenance of more and more ceramic media works has gone beyond the boundaries of ceramic art discussion and entered the category of contemporary sculpture since the modern ceramic art revolution in the 1950 s.Moreover,due to the rebellious nature of traditional crafts in the modern ceramic art semantics,domestic researchers have regarded the event as a departure from tradition,partially ignoring the linguistic inheritance of modern ceramic art from modernist art.It is this inheritance that has given the legitimacy basis of the ceramic medium that appeared later in the contemporary sculpture scene,and also provides the prerequisites for the contemporary exploration of ceramic language.The author jumped out of the general thinking framework with ceramic art as the goal of discussion,only regarded it as a material medium to conduct discussions in the field of contemporary sculpture,examined ceramic materials from a holistic perspective,and selected the relatively clear context of "conceptual intervention" from its intricate evolutionary path.And combining with the historical background,the author connected the transformative factors accumulated in different fields of ceramics,and re-examinedthe modern ceramic art revolution as the successor of modernist language.The author enumerated the richness of ceramic materials in expression,and analyzed from the aspects of sculpture language,symbol transformation,field concept,and public expansion through the specific cases after the 1960 s,and discussed the formation reason of this richness and the meaning behind it,and finally returned to the creator's first perspective,re-examined the process of self-creation,integrated theory into practice,and provided guidance for it.The full text takes the language expression of ceramic materials as the core entry point,and revolves around the involvement of concepts in the language as a clue,combing the problem of the conversion of ceramic materials in the contemporary sculpture field,hoping to provide a new perspective for ceramic materials.
