Francis Bacon(1909.10.28-1992.4.28),was born in Dubelin, the capital of Ireland. He who grew up in a decayed aristocrat, had the same name with his far philosopher relative another Francis Bacon. As one of the most influential painting artist, his works were related with his deeply unusual life. His family were of military that full of masculine which has the strict education, and there were huge gap between the expectation of his family and his homosexual tendency.all aspects formed in early life brought up bizarre spirit upon his art creation;those images that have face of folks and figure of beast, dark and gloomy hue, violent and turbulent brushstrokes, and depictions were undoubtedly correlated closely.Collective unconscious is a common psychic substrate of superapersonal nature, which associates inherited genes of humankind accumulated in long period, and under the function of archetype of intuition it control people's unconscious action.Bacon's painting creation and understandings are related with numerous accidents, instinct and intuitive feeling, even numerous inspirations upon paintings directly originated from some scholars like Sigmund Freud and Marcel Proust who studied the theories of unconsious, therefore discussing the potentials of art on the basis of theory of collective unconscious is reasonable. This dissertation is to analyze Bacon's works by the function and effect of collective unconscious Carl Jung studied, and demonstrate the isolation of figures and logic of sensation.Bacon's works mainly concentrate on the depiction of pope, the self-portrait,photographs of familiar people and so on;also most of them are isolated figures or animals, and less appears multiple figures on a single panting.Narrowly speaking, the isolated figure is the presentation of single person like the Pope, his lovers, and other friends.Generally speaking, the isolated figure is the recognized figure on each work, shapes that have similar characters compared with a figure, organs of folks, the animal that has similar characters compared with a figure,or the form of shadows of a figure. The isolated figure on a painting associates the visual effect of a painting itself, presenting not only upon lots of organic color lumps, handrails, curtain, switches and other stuffs, but a certain sense of harmony upon structure of image, constant motion of isolated person, expansion or shrinkage, escaping to more deep space.By reading numerous papers about the creation of Bacon,we can find out he was fascinated on accidents of creation, choosing chances of image forms or structures, which actually is parallel with emergence of unknown part in art discussed upon the theory of collective unconscious of Carl Jung.Furthermore,in order to disappear the most direct feeling,Bacon emphasizes eliminating the mode of story telling, getting rid of obvious perceptible symbols, but leaves figures that instinctively are willing to keep, which are appearance of collective unconscious situated inside deep section of mind instead of superficial stereotyped image rebelling conventional expression of painting. The dissertation includes five parts: the first chapter is to discuss the studying context, significance and innovations, and generalize the content and method of studying. The second chapter utilizes the theory of collective unconscious, and combines the documents about Bacon's works to compare,in order to deeply discuss the concrete function of collective unconscious in paintings of Bacon. The third chapter is about the specific meaning between the isolation of figures and forms upon paintings. In the fourth chapter, there are compares between the solo series and triptychs. It comprehensively analyzes the historical context of forms of Bacon's painting and the associations between forms and perception. The fifth chapter is to analyze symbolized parts of body and potential possibilities.
