The Application Of Chinese Traditional Image In Contemporary Art

Throughout the ages,Chinese people have unique emotion and aesthetic needs for stone culture.Therefore,a lot of contemporary art works with Taihu stone as the theme are constantly emerging in China.Based on the image of taihu stone as a clue,this paper analyzes the image of taihu stone from traditional Chinese painting to modern and contemporary art works.Combined with the background of the times,it tries to find out the motivation of artists in different times to use Taihu stone image and the role of Taihu stone image in these works.This paper focuses on the differences of motivation and significance of Taihu stone images in modern and contemporary works of art from the first 30 years of China's reform and opening up to the second decade of the 21 st century in China,and it explains the sustainability and effectiveness of continuing to use Taihu stone images in the context of contemporary art.This paper creatively divides two periods and analyzes the social background of China,including the changes of society,culture,art and national self-confidence caused by the rise of China's political and economic status in the world in different periods.In addition,it lists and analyzes the specific artists who have made achievements in sculpture,painting and installation,and their different series of works created in two periods,and expounds the unique role of Taihu stone images in the works in different periods of social context.In detail,in the first 30 years of China's international vision,the rigid and stagnant cultural and artistic environment caused by the relatively closed social environment was exposed to the modernization thought represented by Europe and the United States.With the disparity of economic status,the strong demand of Chinese Society for foreign culture learning has raised doubts about its own culture and esteem for foreign modern culture.Facing the strong foreign culture,artists had a negative attitude towards themselves,followed by confusion about their identity and cultural anxiety.At that time,the slogan of "nationalization of oil painting" became hot again.During this period,Chinese artists gradually adopted Taihu stone as a traditional cultural symbol in their works,mostly to show their cultural identity and self-identity to the world.In the past 10 years,due to China's strong development in politics,economy and culture,Chinese society has gradually integrated into international culture and been widely recognized,and the gap of art and culture has gradually disappeared and began to export.Chinese artists have been able to have an equal dialogue with the others,and the identity of Chinese culture has been basically solved in this period.At present,Chinese artists begin to discuss about the world's social problems with all the artists in the world,such as "What Kind of Current Environment Should Be" and "How Should We Develop in The Future".Therefore,the Taihu stone images in the past 10 years in the 21 st century must represent a different starting point and significance than before.This paper lists Zhou Chunya's,Zhan Wang's and Xu Bing's works,all of which well interpret the above themes.Finally,from my perspective as an artist and works of different periods,combined with the previous research to analyze the role and significance of Taihu stone image in my new works.As well as in the future when various social problems will arise,how can the traditional symbols represented by Taihu stone image keep pace with the times and show good continuity when responding new challenges.
