Some of the intentional objects pointed to by our intentional state exist and some are non-existent.So,do non-existing intentional objects exist? If so,how does it exist, and how can we prove that it exists? These questions are the core arguments of the non-existence problem of intentionality.Based on these arguments, this article discusses from the two dimensions of ontology and epistemology: the ontological level attempts to systematically analyze the connotation of the intentional non-existence problem;the epistemological level tries to demonstrate how it is possible by quantification and reduction. The article clarifies the three concepts of intentionality,non-existence,and intentional non-existence by combing Brentano's research on the problem of intentionality in modern and contemporary times. It considers that intentional non-existence is the non-existent object pointed to by the mind.On the level of ontology,it starts from the perspectives of semantics and words, and uses the method of analysis and induction to explore the interior of intentionality, focusing on the analysis of the two intention concepts of intention object and intention state. For the intentional object,on the one hand,it discusses the difference and connection between being and existence;on the other hand,it divides the non-existing intentional object into two types, that is,"error" and "fiction." The difference between the two explains the non-existence Internal variability of objects. At the same time, the content of intents that are pointed at different states of intent are different,so the article analyzes the diversity of states of intent and the intent verbs.Ontological studies have concluded that intentional non-existence exists, which means that non-existing intentional objects can be proved quantitatively. However, the method of quantification has obvious defects. Its dilemma cannot guarantee that the elements in the field of quantification are true;reductionism seems to make up for this deficiency.Reductionists bring quantification into reductionism to prove the existence of non-existence.In the context of reduction, the attributes of non-existent objects depend on representation, and build a connection with the attributes of real objects. However, this seems to be heading for another dilemma.Instantiating and restoring the attributes of non-existing objects can only prove its rationality in semantic logic, but it cannot fully prove that it has practical significance. The intentional non-existence problem,as a problem in the philosophy of the mind, has its specific complexity.Even if the ontological dispute is resolved,it is difficult for us to form a unified understanding at the epistemological level. For this metaphysical problem,we may not be able to fully explain it in substantive ways such as quantification and reduction. How to recognize nonexistence of intention still needs to be explored.
