Post-colonialism originated in the first half of the 20 th century when the values in non-European cultures and reflections on national cultures began to attract the attentions of some black thinkers, which caused the contrary relations of dual cultures to be rethought in academia.By the time,Edward W.Said,a well-known Palestinian-American scholar formally proposed the theory of post-colonial literature,post-colonialism became a novel method to explore the cultural relations between the colonies and their suzerains. Some western scholars of Indian origin, including Homi K.Bhabha,Gayatri C.Spivak and Jaya Prakash Narayan are all the main representatives of the construction of post-colonial theory.Among them Narayan is an nglish-language writer with remarkable achievements and his literary creation. His creations are inextricably linked to the post-colonial era.In the middle of the 18 th century,India became a British colony and gradually lost its power of speech in the context of globalization. The image of Indian localization was mainly constructed by European colonial discourse or imagined by some Indian diaspora writers, which was inconsistent with the reality of India. As a native writer in the post-colonial period of India,Narayan constantly reiterated India's rich history from the perspective of India's national identity to evoke the common space-time memory of the Indian people.Under the background of the common history and culture,as contemporary Indian builders, thousands of "ordinary people" witness the history of India.Narayan disassociated Indian "the other" image in the ages of colonization from thecolonial discourse in order to emphasize the reality of main image of India.Based on their political and economic advantages,"High-class culture" was boasted by colonists. But the world is rich and colorful because of different nations, cultures and beliefs. Therefore, respecting and accepting different value standards is a developmental trend in the multicultural era.Narayan respected the traditional religious beliefs in India and believed that "the Brahman and I are unified" is the highest realm of life.In addition, the spiritual core of "the Brahman and I are unified" has been influencing Narayan's literary creation. The structures of the novels and the characters' activities in the works always reflected the unique characteristics of Indian cultures. In order to further highlight the unique value of Indian cultures,Narayan also illustrated Indian-style universal values, perceptions of love, especially the expressive differences between men and women in love, which reflected Narayan's keen sense of the times. As a native Indian writer,Narayan strove to explore the ways of Indian spirits and cultures in the collision of Western and local cultures.Due to the complex defermenting psychology hidded behind the language, the use of English language impacted Narayan's traditional consciousness construction.Accordingly, the arrangement of "Malguti Town" and open ending in Narayan's works make us see the writer's ambiguous expressions and dynamic thinking of multicultural factors.Narayan made a choice between Western and Indian traditional cultures, which resulted in a unique literary emotional experience—anxiety.Anxiety is not only the emotional experience and inner feelings of the characters in the works, but also Narayan's self-perception beyond texts.Seen from the anxiety about beauty brought by irrational lifestyle to the ethical anxiety under the conflict of responsibility and obligation, and to the self-satisfaction with faith in the end,the writer seemed to salvage the characters in his works, but he was salvaging himself.
