An Analysis Of The Study Of The Livonian Crusade In English Academia,1969-2019

The history of the Livonian Crusade is the beginning of the Europeanizasion of Estonia and Latvia.This thesis investigated the growth of the Livonian Crusade(1180-1290)study in the English academic community during the past half century(1969-2019).In the first chapter,this thesis analyzed some crucial terminologies in the study of the Livonian Crusade,combed the main historical materials of the Livonian Crusade and explained the translation and collation of these historical materials in the English academia.In the second chapter,this thesis surveyed the study of the Livonian Crusade from the perspective of the Frontier,the Europeanization and the cultural theory since the 1970 s.Combined with the investigation of the authors of the relevant English research literature,this chapter also evaluated the representative figures and characteristics of the above three perspectives.In the last three chapters,this thesis selected three main domains of the study of the Livonian Crusade,detailed the confrontation and defense around these three main topics from the aforementioned three perspectives.The third chapter focused on the causes and nature of the Livonian Crusade,around this topic,there have been two mainstream explanations in English academia for half a century: missionary and trade,this thesis argued that the use of “wealth” and “honor” to analyze the causes of the Livonian Crusade was not extensive.In the fourth chapter,this thesis investigated the study of military history and political history of the Livonian Crusade by scholars from different regions.In the fifth chapter,this thesis focused on the topic of the Legacy of the Livonian Crusade,and examined the arguments of the relevant researchers.For half a century,the mainstream view was that the Livonian Crusade were the starting point for the Europeanizasion of Livonia.In fact,under the tide of Europeanizasion,the national narrative did not escape according to the voice.
