The translation of children's literature,as a branch of the literature translation,is an important but often neglected part in the field of translation.Given the features of children's cognitive ability and the differences between western and Chinese culture, translators of children's literature must take the dual challenges bridging the intercultural and inter-generational gap. This paper attempts to explore children's literature translation under the framework of Gutt's Relevance Theory. The paper first analyzes reading features of its target readership. Then it introduces Gutt's Relevance Theory and explains its relevance to the translation of children's literature.Based on the theory, the paper goes on to present translation strategies adopted to ensure optimal relevance in the process of translation. The paper ends with the conclusion that Relevance Theory provides valuable guidance towards the translation in this specific field. Therefore translators should consciously apply this theory to translation process and enhance the overall quality of translated text.
