A Report On The Post-editing In The Human-Plus-Machine Mode With The Chinese Translation Of The English Articles Of Devices For Seniors As An Example

With the acceleration of the aging process,the demand of seniors has been widely concerned.The development of technology not only provides convenience for the life of seniors,but also makes them healthier.Promoting the application and popularization of the technology devices among seniors is conducive to promoting the development of the senior care industry,improving the quality of senior care services,and enhancing the happiness of seniors.It is helpful for us to get more information of the devices for seniors.Therefore,it is practically significant to translate the relevant English articles into Chinese.This thesis is a report on the post-editing in the human-plus-machine Chinese translation of five English articles of devices for seniors,which were chosen from www.techforaging.com and www.seniorliving.org,two English websites dedicated to seniors.Analyses are made on the problems met in post-editing the Chinese draft translated with Baidu Translate and the corresponding solutions.The problems include inappropriate translation of the proper nouns,mistranslation of slang and idioms and overfocus on the machine translation results.Specific strategies adopted to solve these problems include further searching and verifying the translation of the proper nouns with more accurate searches,correcting the translation of the slang and idioms according to the context and adapting to the target readers’ expectations and reading habits so as not to be restricted with the machine translation results.In doing the post-editing in the human-plus-machine mode,the post-editor has gained experience and realized that she should be clear of the target readers and keep their expectations and reading habits in mind when doing post-editing.She should constantly improve her search skills and be aware of the context.It is hoped that this report can deepen the understanding of post-editing in the human-plus-machine mode and provide a reference for relevant post-editing task.
