Since the early 20 th century,Chinese painting has encountered the dilemma of identity recognition in the western "modern" cultural context.Different groups of painters,such as Lingnan School,Shanghai school and Beijing school,have made great efforts to create a new Chinese painting language.Every time the collective voice of Chinese painting,they are looking for a direction for the modern road.In the past 20 years of the 21 st century,how can we discuss the modernity of freehand flower and bird painting? What problems do we face in the discussion of modernity? Case study has a typical value in the study of art history,which can overlook the macro culture of the times from a micro personal perspective.This paper attempts to explore the efforts and direction of freehand flower and bird painting in the process of "Modernity" through Wang Hanshan's works of art.Heidegger said: "when we approach an object in order to find out what it is,and when we want to grasp its existence meaning,we must enter into its operation meaning.".Only in this sense of operation can the meaning of existence be revealed." "Heidegger",translated by Jin Xiping,commercial press,1999,P.169.]Wang Hanshan,as a freehand flower and bird painter who moved from a remote county to a Chinese Art Museum at the end of the 20 th century,his success is a magical and inspirational road from the countryside to Beijing.At the same time,with his unique works of art,he provided a way to explore the modernity of freehand flower and bird painting,which was different from the cultural circle of Beijing and Shanghai.The introduction part discusses the cultural phenomenon of "Modernity" of Chinese painting,the current research situation of Wang Hanshan,the origin of this study,research ideas and research methods.The text is divided into four chapters.The first chapter discusses the intersection of Wang Hanshan's art career and major events in art history.Wang Hanshan's study experience in Nanjing Art College and national Hangzhou art college,contacts the realistic art path in the life experience of mass culture,and peeps at Wang Hanshan's bumpy creation path after becoming famous through precious letters.The second chapter combs Wang Hanshan's formal reference and spiritual inheritance of Pan Tianshou,Qi Baishi and Jin Nong's works,and makes transformative copying and creation.The third chapter expounds how Wang Hanshan's artistic experience draws nourishment from the folk print,folk song and Hunan culture in the region where he lives,integrates the modeling system and interest of folk art with the tradition of literati painting,and creates a unique artistic world.The fourth chapter expounds the artistic context of the regional painters,the spiritual context of the individual theme and the emotional context of the unity of man and nature in Wang Hanshan's artistic concept.The conclusion part expounds Wang Hanshan's freehand flower and bird painting works which have formed modern vitality after drawing lessons from,absorbing and creatively transforming different nourishment.
