Facing the cross-cultural challenges in the context of globalization,it is particularly important to cultivate students' cross-cultural ability.At present,intercultural communication ability has become an important direction and core goal of language teaching.It is the new responsibility of language teachers to cultivate and improve the intercultural communication ability of language learners.This study investigated the cross-cultural teaching cognition of 90 Chinese teachers volunteers in Australia,and further clarified the internal and external factors that affect the cross-cultural teaching awareness.Both quantitative and qualitative data show that volunteer Chinese teachers in Australia tend to teach cross-cultural knowledge,especially the cultural content closely related to daily life.However,compared with the former international Chinese teachers,they pay more attention to the cultivation of students' cross-cultural attitude and cross-cultural ability.Volunteer teachers' cross-cultural cognition is affected by internal and external factors,including personal learning,teaching,training experience and emotional factors,external factors include teaching environment,curriculum factors,student background,social environment and so on.In addition,with regard to the relationship between the cognition and practice of cross-cultural teaching,the results show that although volunteer teachers are aware of the necessity of cultural content and cross-cultural teaching,their teaching practice is not well practiced,most of the teaching is still dominated by language teaching,and the status of cultural teaching is not high.The results show that volunteers of international Chinese teachers in Australia need support from different aspects to improve their cross-cultural teaching awareness,among which effective teacher training will enable them to better play the role of "cross-cultural international Chinese teachers",help Chinese teacher volunteers and other international Chinese teachers improve their cross-cultural teaching cognition in the teaching process,and better improve students' cross-cultural teaching awareness Intercultural communication ability.
