As a report of the translation of The Great War,this report analyzes how Mona Baker's narrative theory on translation helps guide the translator's practice and improve the output. The fact that most documentary literature narrate disclosed episodes during the nightmarish wartime strengthens the applicability of narrative theory on documentary literature translation, thus the translator shall not only convey the ideas of the story to the readers faithfully, but also reproduce the narrative styles and intentions through appropriate translation strategies. As Mona Baker points out,the essence of translation is renarration, which shows the inseparable connection between narration and translation. To this end,the translator decides to guide his translation with the four strategies of text reframing as proposed by Mona Baker, namely temporal and spatial framing, selective appropriation of textual materials, framing by labeling and repositioning of participants,so as to reproduce the plots, styles and values in the target text feasibly. In conclusion, through case analysis, this report discovers that narrative theory is applicable in guiding and improving documentary literature translation, while translation skills and strategies are also discussed in the case analysis.
