The project selected a speech by the speaker David Nihill in 2018 entitled Hacking Public Speaking and conducted a simulated E-C simultaneous interpreting. The public speaking features as ironic utterances to convey the sense of pungent humor. The information incongruity with the verbal irony in this task brings difficulties to the interpreter to covey ironic effect,including(1)reference inaptness in processing;(2)ostension inappropriateness in delivering. In verbal irony simultaneous interpreting process, the most important task of the interpreter is to transform ironic intentions in the bilingual system. The interpreter can accomplish the ironic effect conveyance in the following two measures from the perspective of the echoic mention view: immediate salience mention as well as construal of sub-set ironic attitudes. In light of this view, the interpreter puts forward the following tactics to deal with information incongruity with verbal irony:(1)salience mention according to the audience's mental lexicon;(2)intention illumination based on the speaker's emotional continuum. This report shows that the echoic mention view has high practicability.Using the above tactics can effectively deal with the information incongruity in SI and ensure the fluency of the target language. In addition, tactics presented in this report can serve as a reference for other rhetorical languages in interpreting, and provide useful guidance for the practice of simultaneous interpretation in the future.
