Vocabulary is a basic element of language.Mr.L.Ron Hubbar,an American educator,points out vocabulary is the smallest meaningful unit of language.Vocabulary is indispensable to the mastery of any language,whether in listening,speaking,reading,writing or translation.Since we are short of English learning environment,vocabulary teaching becomes even more important than any other.At present,English teachers have been put forward higher requirements.Teachers should pay more attention to the cultivation of students‘ learning ability and thinking quality,and take active measures to construct eco-English class.Based on the theories of ecological health system and classroom teaching self-diagnosis,and by the methods of questionnaire survey,teacher-student interview and classroom observation,the author attempts to explore the following questions: 1)From the perspective of education ecology,is there any ecological imbalance in English vocabulary teaching of junior high school? If so,what are the major ecological imbalances? 2)What measures can we take to improve this ecological imbalance situation?Based on the analysis,the study found that the current vocabulary teaching in junior English class has the following problems: 1)The dimension of teaching objectives is incomplete and the orientation of teaching objectives is inaccurate;2)The teaching environment is not harmonious enough and there are too many students in the classroom;3)The teaching resources are unequal distributed and short of an open attitude;4)The teaching practice is not in harmony with the teaching concept;5)The pace of teaching is not harmonious,and the development of teaching lacks effective guidance;6)The teaching evaluation method is single and the students‘ participation is low.Based on the above findings,this study tries to propose some construction strategies for English vocabulary teaching in junior high school from the following six aspects: teaching objectives,teaching environment,teaching resources,teaching methods,teaching procedures and teaching evaluation so as to provide some suggestions for English vocabulary teaching.Besides,this study is supposed to provide reference for teachers‘ self-diagnosis in class and help teachers promote their professional development.
