English reading teaching is an integral part of English teaching and learning,which has a strategic position.Group cooperative learning is a creative and effective teaching method and strategy system.In the English reading class of group cooperation learning,it can create a good atmosphere for students to learn English reading.This is conducive to improving students' interest and ability in English reading.However,as for boarding junior high school students,they are lack of English reading interest,and aren't able to use the basic reading strategies flexibly,so their English reading abilities are low.What's more,group cooperation learning just in English reading class can't fully meet their needs for English reading learning and the classroom reading teaching is not enough to meet the requirements of the national curriculum standard for reading volume and reading level.Therefore,in the process of English reading teaching in boarding junior middle school,it is particularly important to carry out extracurricular reading teaching activities.As the extension of classroom reading teaching,English extracurricular reading learning can provide students with a large amount of comprehensible language input and improve their ability of acquiring information and processing language.At the same time,extracurricular group cooperative learning model can provide a more independent and open platform for students to participate more compatibly in extracurricular English reading and learning so as to solve the related problems of the boarding junior high school students in English reading learning.To achieve this,guided by Cooperative Learning theory,Social Interdependent Theory etc.as well as considering her own working experience and teaching practice,the writer has selected “extracurricular group cooperation learning model” as the research direction,in order to test its effects on English reading teaching and learning in boarding junior middle school.Extracurricular group cooperative learning tasks of English reading were carried out for boarding junior high school students so that the writer could investigate its effects on boarding students' interests in English reading,English reading strategies,and reading abilities and so on.The author took her working place--No.7 middle school in Wafangdian as the research place.She took class 4 and class 5 in Grade Eight as the reference object and the experimental object respectively,carrying out the extracurricular group cooperative learning activities of reading for a semester.To complete this study,the author mainly adopts the Literature Method,the Questionnaire Method and Interview Method.By analyzing the collected data and comparing the pre-test and post-test,the research results indicate that extracurricular group cooperative learning model is beneficial to stimulate students' interest in English reading,and optimize students' reading strategies of English reading.What's more,it can improve students' reading abilities.It is hoped that this study can not only enlighten for English reading teaching of reading in boarding junior middle school,but also offer some useful experience for the research and the teaching practice of extracurricular group cooperative learning.However,owing to the limitation of some factors,the paper still needs further improvements.
