English writing has gained increased attention along with the changes of questions and scores in college entrance examination, hence curricular design requires a high standard.Apart from correcting grammatical errors, teachers are also required to motivate students to produce native-speaker English in various tasks.Nevertheless,a large number of high school students are confronted with the issue of presenting Chinglish in their writing practice, which has obviously become an obstacle in improving their English proficiency. It is imperative to suggest a novel methodology for examining Chinglish tendency in high school English writings. The corpus approach is widely used in language teaching at tertiary levels, but it is rarely used in middle school education to address the aforementioned issue. In addition, there are few studies on Chinglish showing the use of corpus tools. In this respect, this study attempts to bridge the gap in the literature by elaborating on the following three questions:Question 1:What are the features of the Chinglish inclination in senior high school students' English writings?Question 2:How does corpus-based teaching mode help reduce Chinglish expressions in senior high school students' English writings?Question 3: How does corpus-based teaching with authentic language materials benefit English writing teaching in senior high schools? In response to these questions, this study employs a corpus approach to compare the data retrieved from the British National Corpus and students' compositions with Contrastive Interlanguage Analysis.A number of features in relation to Chinglish are identified with an extensive account of translation universals, such as simplification, explicitation and normalization, and the cause of Chinglish is analyzed in terms of language transfer.Based on quantitative and qualitative analyses, this study suggests a range of strategies to help students identify Chinglish and guide them to overcome such a tendency in English writings, all of which,in turn, proves the validity of the corpus-based teaching mode and indicates that the use of authentic language materials can help enhance students' writing ability. Therefore, the significance of this study aims at helping teachers understand the basic Chinglish types and their characteristics, and design teaching mode with authentic materials, appropriate strategies to reduce the use of Chinglish in senior high school students' writings.
