| English Curriculum Standard for Senior High School(2017)emphasizes that the training objective of senior high school students’ cultural quality is for them to acquire cultural knowledge, understand cultural connotation and compare cultural similarities and differences.Even though, there are some studies on cultivation of cultural knowledge, there are few empirical studies and the training methods are limited.Project-based learning approach(PBL)is an inquiry learning model based on a project, which can deepen the understanding of knowledge and pay attention to the cultivation of students’ quality. Therefore, this research attempted to apply the PBL in English teaching to explore its impact on the cultivation of students’ cultural knowledge. The experiment was carried out in a senior high school in Yuan Baoshan and it lasted for three months. The participants were from two intact classes where there were 90 students totally, and each class had 45 students. One class was randomly selected as the experimental class in which PBL was used, and the other was chosen as the control class in which the regularly-used method was used.Tests, questionnaires and semi-structure interview were used in this experiment to make a data collection. After the experiment, the SPSS 20.0 was used to analyze the collected data. The research results showed that PBL could effectively promote students’ English cultural knowledge and their motivation was also improved. However, due to some factors such as limited time, heavy learning task and students’ English proficiency, their cultural knowledge learning interest hadn’t changed significantly.Based on the findings, researcher put forward some suggestions on the implementation of PBL in cultivation of English culture knowledge. There are also some limitations in this study and it is hoped that other researchers would conduct more in-depth research on cultivation of senior high school students’ English cultural knowledge in the future. |
