English reading is not only one of the main tasks for students to learn English,but also an important means to improve their English ability.However,there are many obstacles for students in the process of reading.In English reading teaching,teachers only pay attention to the students' reading scores,ignoring the obstacles of English reading that restrict the development of students' English reading ability.Therefore,the author makes research on obstacles of English reading among junior high school students for improving the students' reading ability.The research questions are as follows:Question 1: What is the distribution of physiological dyslexia of middle school students?Question 2: What are the non-physiological obstacles of English reading of middle school students?Question 3: What are the causes of non-physiological obstacles of English reading of middle school students?The author selects 282 students and 5 teachers from the No.10 Middle School of Weifang,Shandong Province as the research objects.And tests,questionnaires,classroom observation and interviews are applied to investigate the situation of students' physiological dyslexia and non-physiological obstacles of English reading.The causes of non-physiological obstacles are investigated.The results of the research are analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively.The results are as follows: among the students investigated,2% of students have physiological dyslexia,which affects the learning of English reading.There exist some non-physiological obstacles in both linguistic and non-linguistic aspect in English reading for middle school students.The reasons for students' non-physiological obstacles of English reading include limitation of teachers' question and teaching content and lack of knowledge in vocabulary,syntax,discourse and genre,and weak capacity of cultural background,reading habits,reading strategies,reading self-confidence and reading motivation of students.Based on the research above,the author puts forward some suggestions for teachers and students to reduce the non-physiological obstacles of English reading of middle school students.
