The input and output theory have shown a widespread impact in second language acquisition.Many scholars researched the input and output theory and applied it to second language teaching.English Cartoons are interesting and authentic,and the language is authority.Some teachers have applied cartoons as teaching resources in daily teaching.It is found that the most applications of the theories are in higher education rather than in elementary and secondary education after combing and summarizing the input and output theory;according to the application of cartoon s in primary school,most teachers studied how to broaden teaching resources by cartoons and the steps of using cartoons in classrooms.The study of strategies in using cartoons is short and most of them lack strong theoretical basis.For the above problems,elementary level is focused of research.Based on input and output theory,the paper studies the application strategies of cartoons in order to design more scientific and reasonable ways in using cartoons in elementary school.At last,the color of English study and students' performance can be improved.This research chose cartoons with their languages,contents and details,after analyzing the requirements of input and output theory on English teaching and proposes strategies for applying English cartoons in English classrooms in elementary school: creating an atmosphere of English to decrease the “affective filter”;watching intensively and extensively to increase comprehensible input;controlling the way of showing cartoons to make a large number of input which is multi-directional;setting up a framework of output to cultivate students' output.According to the functions of using cartoons in classes,the courses are divided into introduction courses,new knowledge presentation courses,and comprehensive application courses.The author chose a control and an experimental group during the practical sessions,and the variable is whether the application strategies are used in teaching.Different types of courses have been designed and implemented in the experimental group.At the end of teaching,the teaching effect was tested through questionnaires and comparisons of results of two groups.Combining the strategies which is based on input and output theory and cartoons in elementary English classes can increase students' interest in English,with combining teaching with pleasure,their English performances are improved.The study proved a success.
