The study of metaphor as a rhetorical device has a long history.Metaphor has provided a new perspective as a mode of thinking for various fields since Lakoff and Johnson put forward the conceptual metaphor.Although there are many researches on political speech in recent years, there are few researches on speeches on specific occasions, such as the Nobel Prize for Literature. In this thesis, conceptual metaphor theory is used to analyze the conceptual metaphors in60 Nobel Literature addresses. The author aims to answer the questions about the proportions and functions of conceptual metaphor in Nobel Literature addresses from 1959 to 2019.In this thesis,a combination of qualitative and qualitative research is used to classify and annotate the corpus by using the UAM corpus tool, and to explain the typical conceptual metaphors in Nobel Literature addresses.Ontological metaphor, orientational metaphor and structural metaphor are widely used in Nobel Literature addresses.Among them, the frequency of the ontological metaphor is the highest(65.22%);the frequency of structural metaphor is lower with the frequency of 25.06%,and orientational metaphor is used at the lowest frequency of the 9.72%.Metaphor is not only an important rhetorical method, but also a tool that can help people to understand unfamiliar concepts.Conceptual metaphor is an essential carrier of human cognition, culture, religion and society. The conceptual metaphors in the Nobel Literature addresses fulfill the rhetorical, cognitive, cultural and social functions through a partial mapping from the source domain to the target domain. The study of conceptual metaphor in Nobel literature addresses enriches the study of conceptual metaphor in speeches and opens up new perspectives for the further study of the functional aspects of conceptual metaphor.
