The Literary Forms of Argument in Early China is a collection of academic dissertation compiled by sinologists.This paper is written according to the Chinese translation of Chapter 7 Structure and Anti-Structure,Convention and CounterConvention: Clue to the Exemptary Figure's(Fayan)Construction of Yang Xiong as Classical Master.The content of this translation report includes the description of the translation process,the analysis of the academic language and the typical cases of translation text.By combining the literary characteristics,its narrative style in the Western Han Dynasty and other parallel texts,the translator faithfully presents Michael Nylan's understanding of Fayan.The translator has read a large number of translation documents,studied the Fayan and its annotated texts,discussed with scholars about Chinese works so as to comprehensively grasp the background knowledge of this translation text.In the core part,this academic thesis is analyzed from the following three aspects,namely text vocabulary,sentence pattern characteristics and context.Then appropriate translation principles,strategies and methods are applied such as free translation,addition and subtraction,passive and active conversion patterns in order to make corresponding adjustments to all the sentences and strive to faithfully convey the meaning of the original text.Above all,the thesis aims to provide the correct information to the target readers.
