This report is based on the translation practice of the novel Sour Heart(Chapters1-2),whose author is an American Chinese,Jenny Zhang.It is her first novel,a literary text,introducing the experiences of immigrant families and how to achieve self-identity after arriving in America.The characteristics of this book mainly include too many long sentences with complex structures and contain rich foregrounding language phenomena.In short,foregrounding language is a way of deviating from the normal,which makes readers curious and attracts readers’ attention.After analyzing,the translator finds the foregrounding language in the text is in the form of semantic deviation,lexical deviation,graphological deviation,repetition and parallelism.In the process of translation practice,the translator finds it difficult to deal with the foregrounding language in the original text.In order to solve this problem,the translator mainly uses the translation methods of corresponding and recasting and a great many other methods to recur the effect of foregrounding language and the theme as well as the writing style at most on the basis of ensuring the accuracy and completeness of the translation.In this translation report,the translator summarizes and classifies the form of foregrounding language in literary text,which helps the translator understand the translation of novel text deeply,laying a solid basis for translator’s future translation.It is expected that this report would provide some useful and valuable translation methods and ideas as well as reference for translators who are working on the texts of the same type.
