A Study On International Communication Translation From The Intertextuality Perspective

The Government Work Report is not only the official material used by the country for its communication,but also a window for people from the other countries to understand China.It represents the value orientation and cultural ideology of China.It is a summary of one-year or even five-year achievements made by China's government,forecasting China's development plans in the next five years,including political,economic,military,cultural,people's livelihood,diplomatic and other fields.It not only has the significance of conveying and implementing the major policies of the party and the state,but also is the most authoritative source for other countries to understand China's status quo,policies and political systems.Therefore,the translation of The Government Work Report has a direct impact on people's understanding of China.According to the forms of manifest intertextuality and constitutive intertextuality proposed and summarized by Luo Xuanmin,the author makes a clear perusing of The Government Work Report.Simultaneously,the English translations of some representative intertextual references in The Government Work Report are analyzed according to the principles of international communication translation proposed by Zhang Jian in order to investigate how translators deal with and translate intertextual signs in the Government Work Report and whether the translation reflects the principles of international communication translation.The research findings reveal that(1)In the Government Work Report,manifest intertextuality is mainly reflected in the use of quotations,allusions,and parody.Constitutive intertextuality is mainly reflected in the genre intertextuality of four-character idioms,parallelism and antithesis of rhetorical intertextuality and structural intertextuality.(2)the representative forms of manifest intertextuality including quotation,allusion and parody appeared,and adopted translation methods of word-to-word translation,paraphrase and literal translation.The representative forms of constitutive intertextuality are genre and the genre intertextuality in GWRs mainly represent as proverbs and their allusions,the translation methods of these translationsincluding word-to-word translation and literal translation are employed to make the translations of GWRs convey the meaning of words and achieved a better effect of International Communication.(3)The translation of intertextual signs in Government Work Reports better follows the principle of cultural differences,highlighting core information and economic principles.These three translation principles complement each other to make the translation achieve the expected effect of international communication and enhance the attractiveness and affinity of external communication.This study provides a new perspective for the English translation of The Government Work Report in China,expands the scope of intertextuality theory's research,and provides a research basis for the study of the combination of intertextuality theory and political international communication texts.
