Most of Bob Dylan's poetry presents a strong sense of social criticism, and the question of living space is a special part of Bob Dylan's poetry. The living space in poetry contains two important components of social environment and natural environment. So far,in more than half a century of his creative career,Bob Dylan's description of the living space in poetry has gone through three passages:The living space in poetry in the 1960 s and early 1970 s was constructed as an apocalyptic environment. The content of poetry mainly presents the harsh social environment and the desolate geographical environment. The typical interpersonal environment, public opinion environment and political environment in the social environment are conflictanding and brutal, and the corresponding natural environment is also on the verge of being subverted and destroyed. The living space in poetry in the late 1970 s and early 1980 s was constructed as a pure world as perfect as the City of God.In poetry,Bob Dylan constructs a highly idealized living space, and social life is guided by the lofty goal of "serving others",while the corresponding geographical environment is filled with the fortitude and persistence of the Holy Spirit. The living space presented in the poems of the mid-to-late 1980 s is no longer a dark and lightless apocalyptic world, nor is it a city of God under pure Christian teachings, but an evil but real world. The social environment presented in the poem is unbearable, absurd but also slightly warm, the natural environment is chaotic and dirty at the same time has a new side of grass and wood. The differential construction of living space in Bob Dylan's poetry actually contains his personal irony of "Canaan Land".The lofty ideals of the "City of the Mountain" that were established at the beginning of the founding of the United States were replaced by the brutal and dirty realities of secular society, which made Bob Dylan, who converted to Christianity after being born into a Jewish family, deeplydissatisfied with the realities of American society. In its poetry, with the use of the depiction of living space presents a depraved America, through the contrast between religious ideals and historical reality formed a powerful irony.
