English Long Sentence Translation In The Academic Text Under The Guidance Of Relevance-Adjustability Theoretic Approach

The source text of this report excerpts from the monograph Signifying Bodies: Disability in Contemporary Life Writing.According to Relevance-Adjustability Theoretic Approach(RATA)put forward by Li Zhanxi,the author of this report analyzes the English long sentence translation in the academic text for the aim of conveying the original author's communicative intentions.There are quite a number of English long sentences in Signifying Bodies.It is difficult for readers to comprehend the text due to ellipsis,parenthesis,modifier,subordinate clause,meanwhile,cultural background is an aspect of making the comprehending difficult.Therefore,it is a significant point for the translator to put it into practice to analyze how to handle the translation for providing the target language readers with accurate and readable translation.With the guidance of RATA,the author of this report analyzes that in the translating process,as the conveyor of the source text's messages and the original author's ideas,the translator fully mobilizes his cognitive resources to focus on the translation of words and phrases,the adjustment of sentence sequence as well as the complement of the implicated meanings.Under the guidance of RATA,the translator adopts cutting,sequence translation,reversing and combination to analyze how to provide the target language readers with the translation which is readable and easy to be comprehended.Through this translation practice,the author of this report suggests that RATA can well guide the translator to carry out the English long sentence translation in the academic text.And the author of this report hopes this report would provide some help for translators with more academic text translations.
