A Report On A Simulated Chinese-English Consecutive Interpreting In Medical Conference Under The Guidance Of Communicative Translation Theory

In recent years,with the development of China's medical and health services and the improvement of China's international medical status,medical exchanges between home and abroad have become more frequent.The demand for conference interpreting and qualified interpreters has gradually increased in China.In this context,the writer hopes to accumulate desirable experience for medical conference interpreting through his simulated interpreting practice.The 2019 Chinese Western Anesthesia Forum and the 21 st Anesthesia Meeting of Shaanxi Medical Association officially opened on July 13 in Xi'an,China.With the permission of the organizer,three parts of the conference were recorded as the material for the writer to simulate the practice of consecutive interpreting.Guided by communicative translation theory,the writer has successfully completed this practice and this report is a review and summary of it.In the report,the writer analyzes the cases in the process of interpreting and finds three typical problems about sentence structure: loosely structured sentences,sentences with no subject and differences in Chinese and English word orders.The writer proposes the use of segmentation and reorganization to solve the problem of loosely structured sentences,the use of active-passive voices conversion and supplementing appropriate subjects to solve the problem of sentences with no subject and the use of inversion and recasting to solve the problem of differences in word orders between Chinese and English so as to achieve the purpose of transmitting information concisely and precisely and improving the quality and fluency of consecutive interpreting.
