Analysis And Interpretation On Percussion Of Ravel’s Daphnis Et Chloe

Maurice Ravel,a French composer who is with Swiss and Basque background.His ballet Daphnis et Chloe was commissioned by Sergey Diaghilev,and accomplished in 1912.The work is not only known for the extraordinary orchestration but also the dance characteristics inside.It was a repertoire of Shanghai Symphony Orchestra season concert which I ever attend as well.The paper consists of an introduction,a body and a conclusion,followed by references.At the beginning,explain the motive,the meaning and the value of the research in the introduction.Second,the text is divided into three chapters.The first chapter is the life and the music style of Ravel.Besides,try to illustrate the European history and the culture in 19 th century.Including the Exposition Universelle in Paris,the Bellets Russes and S.Diaghilev.In order to build up the knowing of Daphnis et Chloe,the second chapter is about the story and the orchestration of the work.In the third chapter is about the analysis and interpretation of the percussion part of the Daphnis et Chloe.According to the French term on the score,the relationship between the voice and the instrument theory,provide a perspective which is origin in the idea of composer but fit the modern aesthetics.At the end,except concluding some point of this research,also pronounce the opinion about the orchestra performing art of percussion.
