A Study On The Murals Of Daxiong Hall In Gaoping Kaihua Temple

The Daxiong Hall of Kaihua Temple in Gaoping,Shanxi Province was built it in the Sixth year of Xining in the Song Dynasty.It is a typical architectural form of the Song Dynasty.The walls of the west,north and east of the Daxiong Hall are painted with murals.It is the largest and best preserved mural in the existing temples in the Song Dynasty.The murals of the Daxiong Hall of Kaihua Temple,as one of the less preserved murals of the Song Dynasty,show the artistic characteristics of the murals in the Song Dynasty,responding to the ideas of Buddhism in the Song Dynasty,and possessing important artistic value and Buddhist cultural value.The thesis focuses on the murals of the Daxiong Hall in Gaoping Kaihua Temple.On the one hand,on the basis of combing the image content and subject matter of the three paintings of the Daxiong Hall,analysis of the ideological connotation and the relationship between the three paintings.On the other hand,explore the artistic characteristics and artistic value of the murals of the Daxiong Hall in the entire Kaihua Temple.The mainly research methods used literature research,field investigation,comparison of image verses and analysis of artistic expressions,and study from the images,subject matter and ideological connotations of murals of the Daxiong Temple in Kaihua Temple,as well as the artistic features and artistic values of murals,we will have a more comprehensive understanding of the content,ideological connotation and artistic features of murals.Firstly,the thesis discusses the historical background and development of the murals of the Daxiong Hall of Kaihua Temple.Secondly,on the basis of this,the paper analyzes the images of Baoenjing,the Maitreya Sutra,and the Huayan meridian of the Daxiong Temple murals of Kaihua Temple,and interprets the murals with the scriptures.The content of the theme,then combined with the thoughts of the Song Dynasty and the development of Buddhist sects in Shanxi,analyzed the ideological connotation of the murals of the Daxiong Temple in Kaihua Temple,and analyzed the choice and internal connection of the theme of the three paintings.Then it analyzes the artistic expressions of the murals of the Daxiong Temple in Kaihua Temple,and compares the murals of Kaihua Temple with the murals of the same subject in other areas,and analyzes the innovations of the mural paintings of Kaihua Temple.Finally,the thesis discusses the artistic characteristics and value of Kaihua Temple murals,and generalizes the inheritance and development of traditional murals by Kaihua Temple murals.
