This report is based on the translation task of the book Leisure.Leisure, written by Tony Blackshaw(2010),Professor of Leisure Studies and Sociology at Sheffield Hallam University, aims to explain the idea of modern leisure. In the process of her translation, the author realizes the principal difficulty is to deal with leisure terms. After reading some literature on terms' translation, the author finds that not all terms can be translated directly, because there are some terms with existent translation(s).If this kind of terms is translated directly, the result is that many specious target terms will be created. In the light of this point, the author firstly seeks equivalents of the source leisure terms and compares different equivalents,to determine which one most matches the source term conceptually.Besides, drawing on Jennifer Pearson's(1998)classification of technical terms, the author divides the leisure terms without equivalents into two main categories: pure leisure vocabulary and common vocabulary frequently used in Leisure Studies. In addition, the author summarizes translation principles of terms in other fields and combines the features of leisure terms, thus regarding accuracy, monosemy, conciseness, and readability as a guide to the translation of leisure terms.Drawing on these principles, the author analyzes the translation of leisure terms through different cases. And the author concludes as follows:(a)When translating pure leisure vocabulary, accuracy should be met through literal translation, free translation, and transliteration;and the annotation should be added to achieve readability.(b)When it comes to the translation of common vocabulary frequently used in Leisure Studies, there is one thing to consider that this vocabulary often has specific meanings different from their original meanings.Considering this aspect, the author suggests free translation and annotation should be both adopted.
