Dante Gabriel Rossetti, the most individualized artist in the 19 th century,is both a painter and a poet.As a representative figure of the pre-Raphaelian school,Rossetti, influenced by the Victorian Saint Ruskin,is a leading figure in the transition from the pre-Raphaelian school to the later aestheticism.Rossetti had a strong nostalgia for Medieval things. His artistic proposition was a "rebellion" against the classical painting style that dominated the school at that time.He claimed that the pursuit of romance in medieval European art was the main feature of Rossetti's art,and that these characteristics were clearly reflected in the poetry of the former Raphaelists. From Rossetti's works,we can see that he is far away from social problems, does not tend to realistic painting style, adheres to symbolic poetic expression techniques, his profound literary accomplishment, high enthusiasm for poetry creation and almost tragic life, which gives him a unique view of things, and thus brings his works full of poetry, hazy painting, and strong tragic feelings. This article will take the "poetic" expression in Rossetti's works as the breakthrough point, elaborate in depth the "poetic" characteristics of his individualized paintings,as well as the expression form and process of his artistic language, and take the diversification of contemporary art as the background,so as to inspire and guide the innovative practice of individual painting. The article is intended to start from the following aspects: first,to interpret Rossetti's artistic personality and the cause of his "poetic" works;second,to present Rossetti's "poetic" expressive behavior of his paintings;third, based on the contemporary era,to use Rossetti's "poetic" artisticcharacteristics for reference in personal painting creation practice and application research.
