Chinese female literature in the modern sense emerged in the 20 th century. After the writing practices during May Fourth Movement and the new era around1980 s,Chinese female writings reached the third peak of its flourishing in 1990 s,entering a status of self-consciousness and self-introspection,manifested as the awakening of individuality, the awareness of gender and the “private writing”.There were a large number of writing related to mirror appeared in Chinese female writings in 1990 s,taking Linbai's The War of One's Own and Chen Ran's The Private Life for instance. It needs to be pointed out that the mirror-writing discussed in this thesis refers to the psychological projection and expectation of the protagonist and the images appeared in mirrors. And,the scenes when the protagonist took self reflection of the mirror are also brought into discussion.Focusing on women writings in China in 1990 s,this thesis attempted to analyze The War of One's Own by Lin Bai and The Private Life of Chen Ran through perspective of Jacques Lacan's mirror stage theory.Meanwhile,by taking similar texts from other countries as references, this thesis attempted to reveal divergence of mirror-writing and the imparity when Lacan's mirror stage theory applied.Based on the text analysis, the thesis further investigated the reasons of mirror-writing flourishing in China in1990 s,and its gains and losses. The thesis is mainly divided into four sections(except of the introduction).Firstly,to comb the general situation of female mirror-writing in China in 1990 s.Secondly,to analyze the mirror heroines of the representative works of Chinese mirror-writing in the 1990s(The War of One's Own and The Private Life)by using mirror stage theory of Jacques Lacan, hence to reveal the consistency and divergence of mirror-writing in different texts and different application of Lacan's mirror stage theory.Thirdly,to further analyze the expression and development of mirror space and its relationship among with public space. At last,to explore the reasons for the flourishing and particularity of Chinese women's mirror-writing in the 90 s and its gains and losses.
