Robert Bresson,a French director,is one of the world's greatest filmmakers and an outstanding representative of “auteur system”.He has only created 14 films in his life known for their simplicity and refinement.Because the films are obscure, cold and profound with Greek tragedy, mystery, and characteristic individualism world outlook,he is also the most neglected movie craftsman in the world film history.Robert Bresson adopts cameras to write movies, which are perfect examples of Alexander Astruc's movie aesthetics-“The pen on the camera”.Different from the traditional concept of “cinema”,he opposed dramatic films with his unique“cinematography”,defended the purity of film art,and truly wrote films as an art.The concept of “cinematography” permeates the theory of electrography, showing an individualistic style in the fields of theme analysis, image style, lens language, audiovisual elements and so on with cross-era significance. In short,he devoted himself to exploring the secrets of human nature and soul to make great contributions to the development of film art.In view of the “auteur system” theory, the concept of film narration and the film text, the author explores Bresson's film art and the reasons why he has been neglected from the fragmentary words of Bresson's “Notes sur le cinématographe”,as well as the significance of his film concept. There are six parts in this paper about Robert Bresson's film art.In the introduction, the background, significance and current situation of the research and the basic structure of the paper are analyzed and the research methods, difficulties and innovations are clarified. In the first chapter, the author introduces the source and development of the concept of “auteur system” and the relationship between the theory of ““auteur system” and Robert Bresson, which lays a theoretical foundation for the study of Robert Bresson and his film art.In the second chapter,Bresson's life and his works are sorted out to sum up the relationship between his growth environment, creative experience and film theory in terms of his fragmented written materials and film works, revealing elements of the author's style. In the third chapter, the author explores the profound implications of the themes such as religion,salvation,self-determination,death,human nature, money and so on and Bresson's thoughts in Bresson's films. The fourth and fifth chapters are about the narrative features and audiovisual style of Bresson's films.Image expression, narrative strategy and lens elements embodying Bresson's unique image style are discussed in depth. In conclusion, the author summarizes the paper and discuss the practical significance of Bresson's film art in accord with the characteristics of Bresson's cinematography.Based on the analysis of Bresson's highly personal movie concept movieartistic characteristics under the “auteur system” theory, the author discusses a calm, simple and profound movie craftsman and the current significance of his movie artistic concept and practice.
