A Report On The E-C Translation Of Biomedical Literature

This report is based on an E-C translation practice of Sex-specific Differences in Hepatic Steatosis in Obese Spontaneously Hypertensive(SHROB)Rats and Phosphorylation of Sterol Regulatory Factor Binding Protein-1a by Protein Kinase A(PKA)Regulates Transcriptional Activity.The main purpose of the report is to improve people's understanding of metabolic syndrome and related diseases,promote academic exchanges,the spread of advanced medical achievements,and the advancement of medical standards.According to Nida's functional equivalence theory,meaning is greater than form,and functional equivalence should be achieved between two languages in translation.Biomedical literature mainly presents the research process and conclusions of the original work,pays attention to objective facts,and has the characteristics of professionalism,scientificity,objectivity,accuracy and so on.Therefore,the translation of the source text is based on the standard of accuracy,fluency and naturalness,supplemented by the application of translation skills such as conversion,division,combination,omission and restructuring,so as to achieve the equivalence between the target language and the source language in terms of vocabulary,syntax,text and style.This report firstly introduces the background and significance of the translation task.Secondly,it analyzes the characteristics of the source text from the four levels of vocabulary,syntax,text and style.Then,the detailed translation process is analyzed.Before translation includes collecting background information,preparing translation tools,resources,introduction to the translation theory,formulation of the translation plan and glossary.While translation is composed of quality control,which is mainly about the analysis of how to ensure the accuracy of the terminologies and translation quality,and process description.After translation includes self-evaluation,evaluation from the medical expert and the entrusting party.Moreover,according to the features of the source text,typical cases such as the translation of terms,abbreviations,medical amphibious words,passive voice and long andcomplex sentences are analyzed combining functional equivalence theory.In conclusion,under the guidance of functional equivalence theory,the translation of biomedical literature should focus on conveying the messages correctly.Different standard and strategies should be adopted toward the four principles of functional equivalence theory,so as to achieve the same or similar “readers' response” between the target readers and the original readers.Besides,the translation difficulties and experience in this translation practice are summarized.In case of lack of professional knowledge of the translator,it is essential to cooperate with medical professionals and communicate with the author of the source text in time.The translation of biomedical literature must be fully prepared before translation,and it must also be revised many times after translation,so as to avoid mistranslation.After that,the report summarizes the implication and limitations in this translation practice,so as to strengthen the author's translation theoretical learning and practice ability in the future.
