Obstacles And Coping Strategies Of Listening Comprehension In Chinese-Arabic Consecutive Interpreting

This thesis describes an empirical study of listening comprehension in consecutive interpretation from the Chinese language to the Arabic language(the author's mother tongue).In this thesis,the author took Xi Jinping's keynote speech,at the opening ceremony of "Belt and Road" Forum for International Cooperation in May 2017,as an example to analyze the causes of listening comprehension obstacles in Chinese-Arabic consecutive interpretation and propose coping strategies.Usually,when interpreters translate a foreign language into their native language,they face many challenges in listening comprehension,which will affect the quality of their interpretation.Listening comprehension is the basis of interpreting one language to other,and the obstacles of listening comprehension can lead to errors or omissions in the target language,such difficulties can interfere with subsequent listening or can even cause psychological pressure on the interpreter,and hence,reduce the quality of the target language.This thesis starts with the definition and the importance of listening comprehension,and then analyzes listening comprehension problems in consecutive interpretation from Chinese to Arabic language.These problems include three aspects: linguistic barriers,lack of background knowledge and psychological factors.For interpreters,it is necessary to pay attention to the impact of listening comprehension on the interpretation quality.Interpreters should also to detect any related problems and work hard to solve them.Finally,the author strives to find out relevant strategies that deal with listening comprehension through research;such as improving Chinese listening skills,increasing vocabulary in multiple fields,etc.The aim is to timely sort out and to summarize relevant political,legal,and economic terms,to expand knowledge,and to improve one's interpretation ability;furthermore,the author attempts through this thesis to provide references to other interpreters' listening comprehension in the process of Chinese-Arabic interpretation.
