This report is written based on the translation practice of the practical text Work Well with Others. The Chinese translation of rhetoric in the practical text is mainly explored here.Work Well with Others is a guide book about career behaviors. The author of the book aims to tell the readers how to face the "small things" in life, especially at work,by describing his own experiences, and how you can look proper, behave well, and how you get ahead by means of the sense of fear.In the process of translation,it is necessary for the translation not only to reflect what environment the author lives in,but also to be expressed in simple, humorous words and sentences, easy to understand, and thus the readers will be more interested in reading it.The widespread use of rhetoric is a common phenomenon in both English and Chinese.By using a variety of rhetorical devices,we can express ideas more vividly and enhance the appeal of the language.Based on Hu Shuzhong's classification in his book Modern English Rhetoric, the translator divides English rhetoric into three categories:lexical rhetoric, syntactic rhetoric and phonological rhetoric. Many translation methods are used for the three main rhetorics in the source text. For the semantic rhetoric, literal translation can be used if the metaphor and the meaning are completely corresponding in the two languages without cross-cultural barrier;replacement can be used if there is similar rhetoric or no rhetorics in the target language. For the syntactic rhetoric, amplification, omission and conversion are mainly used to flexibly deal with the syntactic rhetorics such as parallelism, repetition and progression, avoiding the unnecessary repetitions so that the target language is concise and closely packed. For the phonological rhetorics, the four-character words and antithesis are applied to achieving the semantic and aesthetic equivalence to the full extent if there is no identical ones in the target language.
