Former studies have different insights on effects of processing fluency in cognitive processes.Certain studies imply that processing fluency could improve people's learning efficiency effectively, while others imply that processing fluency could affect people's concentration while pending complicated problems, and therefore have a negative effect on learning efficiency.Cognition on humor works is required for people to enjoy those works.Processing fluency could determine the fluency of cognition and therefore affect people's estimation of the humor degree of different works. This paper chooses crosstalk clips as stimulus to estimate the effect of processing fluency on humor estimation on crosstalk languages.Crosstalk languages are complicated contents with multiple levels.Among them, numbers of hidden logics exist behind the funny words on the surface.Hence, contents of crosstalk languages could be separated into a simple group of words and a complicated group of words. It could be inferred that for contents of different difficulties, effects of processing fluency could be different as well. Two double-factor(fluency and complexity of contents)experiments are included in this paper. For both of them, dependent variables are the subjects' evaluation of the humor degree of crosstalk language. These two experiments are proposed to evaluate the effects of processing fluency on evaluations of humor degree of easy contents and complex contents.Experiment one evaluates the influence of visual fluency on the evaluation of humor level of crosstalk languages. This experiment controls processing fluency by adjusting image contrast according to previous studies. The crosstalk language clips being used are divided into simple group and complex group based on their difficulties of understanding.Analysis of variance shows that there is a significant interaction between processing fluency and content complexity. For simple group, the increasing of processing fluency has a significantly positive effect on the evaluation of humor degree, and the improvement range has a positive correlation with the humor degree of the content itself;as for complex group, the improvement of fluency can also significantly improve the evaluation of humor level, and the higher the humor level of the original content, the less the impact of fluency. In Experiment two,we evaluate the effect of auditory fluency on the evaluation of crosstalk humor degree. The stimulus materials are still simple and complex cross talk segments, and the processing fluency is controlled by adjusting the noise size in the audio. The results of variance analysis are similar to those of Experiment one,and the interaction between processing fluency and content complexity is also found. In simple group, the improvement of processing fluency can still have a significant impact on estimation of humor degree. For complex clips, fluency is also significant, and the influence of fluency decreases while the humor degree of the content itself increases;when the humor level of the content itself is very high, increase of fluency has little effect or even negative effect;when the humor level of the content itself is low, increase of fluency will have positive effect instead.According to the results of the two experiments, the influence of processing fluency on the evaluation of humor level is restricted by the complexity of content. When the content is relatively simple, the improvement of processing fluency can significantly improve the sense of humor evaluation, and the improvement range is relatively large, which is positively related to the humor level of the content itself.Simultaneously, when the content is more complex, the effect of processing fluency improvement is also significant, but the improvement range is not large comparing to the simple content, and the improvement range is negatively related to the humor level of the content itself. In addition, compared with the visual form, when the crosstalk clips are presented in auditory form, the effect caused by the change of processing fluency could be stronger.
