Translation Strategies For Participle Constructions In Sci-tech Text From The Perspective Of Skopos Theory

The material for this translation report is selected from Chapters 1 to 4 of the book Technologies for Development-From Innovation to Social Impact.These chapters introduce the necessity of promoting sustainable development in today's worldas well asthe key impact of applying technological innovation into social development,especially emphasizing the significance of innovation and its benefits to developing countries.The topic of this book has a lot of practical implications which can popularize the public's knowledge of technology innovation.The source text is a typical scientific and technological text characterized by a lot of participle constructions.Therefore,the translation of participle constructions is key part of this practice.This report classifies participle constructions into three types: participle construction as attributives,participle construction as adverbials and participle construction as object complements.Under the guidance of Skopos Theory,this report focuses on scientific and technological text and uses methods such as amplification,synchronizing,embedding,synthesis,inversion and division to deal with the translation of participle constructions in the source text,exploring the translation strategies for scientific and technological texts from a more specific perspective.The report is divided into five chapters.The first chapter is introduction to the background of the source text,the significance of this translation practice,and the process of conducting the translation.The second chapter gives a brief introduction to the Skopos Theory and an overview on the relevant studies of Skopos Theory in translation practice.The third chapter first analyses the definition of participle construction and then classifies participle constructions in the source text.The fourth chapter discusses the translation of participle constructions in the source text under the guidance of Skopos Theory.Chapter Five summarizes the findings and limitations in this translation report.
