Negotiated interaction means the conversational adjustment,modification or advancement which is made by teachers and students in the process of interaction in order to realize mutual understanding,to gain more accurate language forms or to acquire information.Relevant studies in second language acquisition prove that negotiated interaction can provide comprehensible input for learners.In the 1980 s,some researchers in second language acquisition focus on classroom interaction and put teacher-student interaction into students' language acquisition.In recent years,some researchers only focused on the general picture and frequency distribution of negotiated interaction while only a few researchers conducted negotiated interaction with students' oral output.This study intends to explore the current situation of the use of negotiated interaction and the effects of different types of negotiated interaction and different negotiated devices on students' oral output.This study selects 8 English classes in Experimental Middle School in Hohhot as the subject and uses mixed research method to explore the effect of negotiated interaction on students' oral output.Qualitative analysis was used to study the current situation and the effects of negotiated interaction on students' oral output.There are three questions in this study:(1)the currentsituation of the use of negotiated interaction;(2)the effects of three types of Negotiated interaction on students' oral output;(3)the effects of eight negotiated devices on students' oral output.Using classroom observation and video-recording to collect the data.The main results were summarized as below:(1)Negotiated interaction covers small part in English class and negotiation of content exists most;(2)Prompt,Elicitation and Confirmation check are used most in eight devices;(3)negotiation of content has great effects on students' oral output and elicitation,prompt and repair-initiation have the most influence on students' oral output in quality.Negotiated interaction can create a linguistic environment more beneficial for learners to enhance their ability in using the language and promote students' oral output in some degree.In the future,teachers will be supposed to use more negotiated interaction to create more chances for students to participate in classroom interaction and help students to acquire language.
