Research For The Limited Bandwagoning From Thailand To America Under The Framework Of Alliance

After World-War II,Thailand and America established the bilateral security alliance through "South-East Asia Collective Defence Treaty" and "Rusk-Tana Communique".In the 1950s and 1960,Thailand was choosing to keep the same path with America's foreign strategy,which mainly about lots of military operation in the region of Asia-pacific.Since the 1970s,with the change of international situation and the introduced of the Nixon Doctrine,U.S.global strategy has made a great adjustment,and the Comprehensive bandwagoning from Thailand to America also turned to the Limited bandwagoning.Thailand foreign policy has shown greatly flexibility and autonomy when Thailand continues relationship with America,at the same time,the policy was not follow the asking of America's strategy,but keeping limitation under the framework of alliance.So,which elements lead the formation of limited bandwagoning policy?Limited Bandwagoning is a summary about the mutual relations of Thai-America alliance,is a descriptive noun,not a conceptual noun.The conception of Bandwagoning has involved in Threat,Interest,which were the fundamental elements of the analyzed framework of Bandwagoning theory.This article took threat,interest and recognition as the variate which help to analyze the reason of Thailand foreign policy.This article also try to connect the three levels——system,nation and elite——with these elements,to established the analyzed framework.The co-action of analytical elements at the three levels,which promote the formation and development of Thailand's limited bandwagoning policy to America.The motivation for the formation of limited Bandwagoning policy from Thailand to America is the result of the three levels——system,state and elites.From the view of the system,the change of the international pattern,the adjustment of the United States strategy,those elements made Thailand face the decline of the external threat pressure,and providing the macro background and reason for the formation of Thailand's limited bandwagoning policy;From the national level,the differences of interests between the two countries,and the concern about its sovereign interests and internal affairs that were intervened by America,which compelled Thailand to adjust its bandwagoning policy,actively,towards the United States;From the perspective of elite level,it has accelerated the adjustment and development of Thailand's foreign policy,such as the cognition of threats and interests faced by the country,the intervention and influence of domestic social forces and the cognition of traditional flexible diplomacy strategy.The limited bandwagoning policy from Thailand to America has a broad influence.For the situation in East Asia,on the one hand,it has eased the security situation about the south-east Asia,on the other hand,it has also weaken the effectiveness of the America's Asia-Pacific Alliance system;For both China and America,the improvement of the security situation around China is facilitated,while the Asia-Pacific rebalancing strategy of the United States is restricted.For Thailand,it is not only conducive to enhancing the flexibility of Thailand's foreign policy,but also to promote Thailand's influence and international status in the region.
